What is Poppy’s Toy Drive?
Poppy was only 5 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, just four days before Christmas in 2018, so she knows how it feels to miss holiday celebrations with family and friends.
After conquering cancer and entering remission, Poppy launched a campaign to cheer up all the children in the hospital: Poppy’s Toy Drive. During her stay, instead of accepting toys for herself from hospital volunteers, Poppy would fill her little red wagon and deliver toys to other kids on the unit, especially those who were feeling down. Poppy’s Toy Drive was inspired by her mission to become friends with every child she met at Inova L.J Murphy Children’s Hospital.
With your help, this year the drive will deliver holiday toys to even more children at Inova Murphy. Harrity 4 Charity has generously offered to match donations up to $75,000, so Inova Murphy can purchase and distribute toys to all those children who must spend the holidays in the hospital.
Can we bring toys directly to the hospital?
Today, due to the impacts of COVID-19, Inova is unable to accept toys or books for pediatric patients. Through Poppy’s Toy Drive, we are raising funds to ensure Inova can make all their smallest patients have a bright holiday season — complete with presents!
Is there a fundraising goal for Poppy’s Toy Drive?
Harrity 4 Charity has generously offered to match donations up to $100,000 — so we want to fully achieve that match — and more if possible!
