Nurses help us all feel better.
It’s time we returned the favor.

Please read some of the messages of Thanks for Nurses Week

Nobody works harder or cares more for patients than our Inova nurses. We’re so very grateful for their service and dedication, so please help us say thanks!

Thank you to the best group of nurses!  With compassion, dedication, and thoughtfulness, you provide care to young and old, rich and poor, after some of the worst life-altering events that a person can experience.  You help make our community a much better place to live in.

The care Tracy provided to my mom on her last day both at INOVA Fairfax and here on earth was THE best she had received after two weeks of hospitalization with a constant rotation of nurses.  Simply put,Tracy is remarkable! She treated Mom with incredible grace and dignity,  helped me brush her teeth, checked in regularly despite Mom’s being assigned to hospice care, and gave my family and me all we needed to keep Mom comfortable until her transportation finally arrived. When her shift ended, Tracy even made a point of saying goodbye and gave me the hug I needed to carry through. End of life is hard enough to process, but Covid and other circumstances I was balancing made it just that much harder to navigate but the care that Tracy showed Mom helped my heart carry on.  Words feel inadequate to express my profound appreciation for her generosity of spirit and commitment to superlative patient care. Without question, she is the best INOVA has to offer.

My dad was admitted to Inova Fairfax several years ago due to a serious cardiac arrest. It was a horrific few days for our family. The skill and  professionalism of the nurses saved his life. The compassion of the nurses made our experience somewhat bearable. We are so indebted to our nurses. You are an inspiration to me and many others.

Dear nurses,

In December 2020, my husband, 79 at the time, was admitted for Covid. He spent 19 days at CCU. This is where your compassion, care, expertise and knowledge came into play.

You took extra care of him while he was on O2 for all that time (no ventilator); despite his occasional grouchiness, you stayed the course with grace, respect, tolerance, patience and compassion.

And for that we are both indebted and thankful to you.

As the daughter of a physician-surgeon, my dad was called the Angel and so you too are our angels and have also secured a soft spot in my heart.

Thank you for all you do and Godspeed always.

The nurses at the INOVA Heart and Vascular Institute are awesome.  They made my heart transplant stays for prep, operation, and recovery very comfortable and even enjoyable at times.  Thank God for good nurses, and you have some of the best.

Thank you.

We are so thankful for the wonderful care our daughter Caroline received when she had her surgery at Inova. Her nurse Zee stood out to us as exceptional. She had a calm voice and gentle hands that helped her wake up smoothly after surgery. She even got her stuffed animal a OR hat to match hers!

– Lauren S.

To each of you thank you for showing up every day to provide outstanding care to your patients. It has truly meant the world to me during my cancer appointments and I know you will be there with me through each step of my cancer journey.

I pray that God continues to empower, strengthen, bless and protect each of you

It may seem a small thing, but I have large feet, and a nurse hunted up some extra large walking socks for me when I was in the hospital for a procedure

– Calvin C.

Cindy oncology nurse was filling in and she you saved my life! Both mentally and physically! I would not have made it out of there so soon and had a good feeling if it was not for you!

– Lorie H.

DeWayne, thank you so much for caring for my husband Daniel. You are understanding, kind, and helpful. Your demeanor and encouragement helped Kirby through a tough time.

– Marianne P.

I would like to that the nurses who attended to me before, during and after my hernia surgery on 2/1/2021.  Special thanks to the pre-op nurses though. Naturally, patients are more anxious before the surgery and the pre-op nurses really went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and relaxed by keeping the conversation light.

– Gary I.

Recently had a knee replacement. Thank you to all the pre- and post-operative staff working with Dr. Hamilton for a wonderful job in helping me through my recovery efforts.

– Victor V.

Your continuous support these last two years is immeasurable!  The sacrifices you made for all of us NEVER stopped!  We are indebted to you for our life today and in the future!  The love and care, days, weeks, and months, giving everything you had to give!  We LOVE and APPRECIATE you for the selfless human beings you are!  God bless you always!  You are our angels!!!

– Carolyn F.

Thank you for your wonderfully friendly and compassionate support helping your patients bear the unbearable. I could never thank you enough for all you do for me let alone all the patients you help through our treatments over time. You are truly angels in scrubs.

Thanks so much for all your support during my radiation treatments this past Feb and March!

As a nurse, you can imagine what a humbling experience it was when I found myself as an inpatient for just short of a weeks time. Working in healthcare, it’s easy to try to micromanage all aspects of your health care plan. Akongne allowed me to take a step back and JUST be a patient. She allowed me to be vulnerable; and provided me reassurance and the necessary comfort to do so.  She cared just as much about getting me my pain medicine on time as she did whether or not I liked my breakfast or if I got the latest deal whilst online shopping to pass the time. She got to know me for me, where I came from, why I chose nursing, and what brings me joy. I chose nursing to make connections with my patients just as she made with me. She was so personable she helped me forget that I was a patient. I was inspired by her compassion, so much so that I hope to one day take what I learned from her to implement in my own practice. Any patient is lucky to be cared for by her. I am forever grateful for the impact she made in my heart as a patient, and as a fellow nurse.  There is no one more deserving for this award than her. It was an honor to be under her care!

My mom (AK) was admitted on 2/11.  She had a colonoscopy and endoscopy done in the morning.  Edna was her nurse and she was the BEST!  She was compassionate, knowledgeable, patient, and really helped my mom in recovery post-procedure.  In particular, my mom had trouble voiding her bladder.  As a result, she spent another night.  But Edna was SO wonderful in helping my mom work through this issue.  She advised and gave my mom a sense of calm and sure enough, throughout the night, my mom’s bladder function returned to normal.  Edna is a fantastic nurse who clearly understands her patient’s needs and holistically cares for them. I am ever grateful my mom was under her care.
