COVID-19: How Can I Help?

For the safety of our patients and staff, Inova Children’s Hospital cannot accept toys, books and other donations for pediatric patients. But the need is still great, so Inova is inviting the community to host your own online fundraising “toy drive” and promote it on social media. All funds raised will be used to spread cheer to Inova’s youngest patients in the hospital.

Inova’s team of researchers has many innovative clinical trials underway to help identify effective treatments for COVID-19—all of which have huge potential for societal impact. To get this done, we are partnering with universities as well as pharmaceutical and biotech companies, but some studies remain unfunded, especially those that are Inova-initiated. Fire, eviction, illness, funeral expenses, unexpected crises—when Inova team members experience an unforeseen financial shock and need a place to turn, you can be there for them through a gift to the Team Member Compassion Fund. Thanks to gifts from people like you, since 2020 Inova’s Compassion Fund has distributed more than $500,000 in emergency cash assistance to team members in their time of greatest need.

Individuals and organizations can support Inova’s COVID-19 patients and caregivers by hosting their own online fundraising site. We have created an easy-to-use toolkit to help you set up your own peer-to-peer fundraising page, which you can promote via Facebook and other social media channels. Every dollar raised goes to Inova’s Emergency Preparedness Fund supporting patients and our frontline healthcare heroes.

We welcome the community’s messages of gratitude to share with our hardworking healthcare team members who are being called on to work extra shifts to care for our patients. Send a message of encouragement and support, or send a link to a drawing or video. We will share these across Inova to inspire these compassionate caregivers.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, guidelines for food donations are as follows:

• Minimum of 25 meal donations required.
• Only restaurant and/or catering company prepared food – no homemade food.
• Items must be individually packaged and labeled – i.e., only “grab and go” meals.
• We cannot accept “shareable” items such as whole pizzas, open trays of food nor large containers.
• Cupcakes/cookies must be individually packaged.

Inova Blood Donor Services’ blood supply is critically low. We need help from members of our community to make life saving blood donations and to encourage others to donate. One blood donation can save up to three lives!

We are seeking individuals recovered from COVID-19 to donate plasma (colorless fluid part of blood) for a research study. Your donated plasma contains immunoglobulins (immune protection) and this study will use your plasma to help patients currently sick with COVID-19.
